EC to start dialogues with political parties Aug 24

The Election Commission (EC) will start holding dialogues with registered political parties on August 24, said acting secretary of EC Secretariat Helaluddin Ahmed.

"Schedule of dialogues with 12 registered political parties have been finalised so far while the commission will hold talks with a total of 40 registered political parties by phases," he said.

The secretary said the commission would hold talks with six parties before the Eid-ul-Azha from August 24 and invitation letters have already been sent to the parties.

The schedule for talks with six parties after Eid has also been fixed, he said, adding talks with six other political parties will start again on September 10 after the Eid.

Helaluddin Ahmed said the EC invited the parties from bottom of the list in line with the sequence of registration.

Talks will be held with two parties each day and 10 representatives of each party are invited to join the talks, he added.

On August 24, EC will hold talks with Bangladesh Nationalist Front (BNF) at 11am and Bangladesh Sangskritik Muktijote at 3pm, on August 28, EC to hold talks with Bangladesh Muslim League (BML) at 11am and Khelafat Majlish at 3pm, on August 30, the Election Commission will hold talks with Bangladesh Biplobi Workers Party at 11am and Jatiya Gonotantrik Party at 3pm.

After the Eid, on September 10, EC will hold dialogues with Bangladesh Islami Front at 11am and Islami Andolon at 3pm, on September 12 with Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish at 11am and Islami Oikya Jote at 3pm, on September 14 with Kalyan Party at 11am and Islamic Front Bangladesh at 3pm.

On July 31, the commission started holding dialogues with stakeholders and election experts.
