Bangladesh Meat Merchant Association (BMMA) today demanded stopping the import of cows from neighbouring countries to protect the local farmers and tannery industry.Leaders of BMMA made the demand at a press conference at Dhaka Reporters Unity auditorium in the city.BMMA Acting Secretary General Rabiul Alam read out a written speech while others leaders of the organization Sohel Ahmed, Nabi Hossain, Shamim Ahmed and Hazi Anowar were present at the press conference, among others.Alam said many cows are coming from neighbouring countries ahead of the holy Eid-ul-Azha though currently there are around 1.15 crore cows worthy to be slaughtered during the Eid in the country.He urged the concerned authorities to control extortion in cattle markets and stop taking access taxes from the cattle traders.Source: BSS
