Surgery on the right hand of a little girl Muktamoni, who has been suffering from an ‘unknown disease’, has been performed successfully.
Doctor Samanta Lal Sen, Burn Unit Coordinator of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), on Saturday confirmed this while speaking to the journalists after the surgery.
At 8.50am, doctors started the operation on Muktamoni after they found the existence of the tumour in her artery following a biopsy.
A 13-member medical board at a meeting on August 8 decided to operate on 12-year-old Muktamoni as a biopsy result showed the existence of the tumour.
On August 5, the biopsy conducted on Muktamoni revealed that she has developed tumours in her blood vessels.
The state took responsibility for Muktamoni’s medical care after her story was reported on Jagonews24.com on July 9. She was admitted to DMCH on Jul 11.
According to Mukta’s medical history, her parents had observed a small swelling on her chest when she was three years old. After a few days, marble-like protrusions appeared underneath her left armpit.
Her parents first took her to local doctors, but to no avail. Thus began a long round of treatment that is continuing till this day. Mukta complains of unbearable pain in her affected hand, which is infested with parasitic worms.
