Mass Communication and Journalism (MCJ) Department of Dhaka University (DU) today celebrated its 55th founding anniversary amid festivity and fanfare on the campus.
Marking the day, teachers and students of the department brought out a colourful procession from the Aparajeyo Bangla premises at about 11 am.
Parading main thoroughfares of the campus, the procession ended at Dr RC Majumdar Auditorium premises.
Later, a prize giving ceremony was held at RC Majumdar Auditorium. DU Vice-Chancellor Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique addressed the function as the chief guest.
Noted journalist and columnist Syed Badrul Ahsan presented a keynote paper on the occasion.
With DU MCJ Department Chairman Professor Mofizur Rahman in the chair the programme was addressed by Chief Information Commissioner Professor Golam Rahman as special guest.
DU VC Professor Arefin Siddique in his speech said objectivity is the key to journalism and without this functional journalism is impossible.
The MCJ Department started its journey through diploma courses on August 2, 1962 and it is now offering undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD degrees.
