A local reporter was arrested from his residence at Dumuria upazila in Khulna in a case filed under section 57 of the Information and Communication Technology Act in the wee hours of Tuesday.
The arrestee was identified as Abdul Latif Morol, Dumuria Upazila reporter of Daily Prabaha published from the district.
Confirming the matter to Jagonews24.com, Sukumar Biswas, officer-in-charge of Dumuria Police Station, said that, one Subrata Faujder filed the case on Monday night alleging that Morol defamed a lawmaker via a Facebook post.
According to the case, Morol had allegedly criticized State Minister of Fisheries and Livestock Narayan Chandra Chanda regarding the death of some livestock and poultry which was distributed among poor people by the minister.
