Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed today urged the developed countries to remove tariff and nontariff barriers for promoting Bangladesh's export products.
"Due to different tariff and non-tariff barriers, Bangladesh's exports to different countries in the world have not been growing at expected level," he said while meeting with Secretary General of the World Customs Organisation (WCO) Kunio Mikuriya at secretariat in the city, said a release.
Tofail Ahmed said the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) should get duty free and quota free market access in the developed countries as per decision of the World Trade Organisation (WTO).
"But many developed countries do not provide duty free and quota free market access to the LDCs," he added.
He said Bangladesh's export is moving forward by achieving remarkable success in the world trade for diversification of export products and exploring export market. "Bangladesh earned US$34.84 billion from export in the last fiscal 2016-2017 and it is poised to go beyond $ 60 billion mark in 2021," he informed.
Kunio Mikuriya said WCO is working for solving customs related problems of the WTO member countries by providing advice, training and technical supports.
"WCO is providing all necessary supports to the WTO member countries to make easy the world trade process," he added.
Commerce Secretary Shubhashish Bose, among others, was present in the meeting.
