2nd shipment of rice from Vietnam arrives at Ctg port

The second consignment of rice imported from Vietnam arrived at the outer anchorage of Chittagong port this morning, reports BSS.“The ship, MV Fax, carrying 27,000 tonnes of rice reached the port around 10 am,” said Zahirul Islam, controller of movement and storage of Chittagong's food department.The officials of Food department collected the specimen of the rice for laboratory test at 3 pm, he said.“The rice will be unloaded after a lab test to verify whether it was sent as per our requirement,” he added.A total of 47,000 tonnes of rice out of 250,000 tonnes bought from Vietnam arrived the port so far, he continued.Zahirul Islam expected that the third shipment of rice would arrive at the port on July 22.Bangladesh decided to import 250,000 tonnes of rice at a cost of Taka 908.85 crore from Vietnam under a government-to-government deal for addressing the shortage of rice in local markets due to flood in haor areas.The first consignment of rice weighing 20,000 tonnes arrived on July 13.
