Maya for making all-out efforts to prevent waterborne diseases

Disaster Management and Relief Minister Mofazzal Hossen Chowdhury Maya today instructed the district administration to make all out efforts for preventing the outbreak of diarrhoea and other water-borne diseases in the flood affected areas.

"The district administration must have to supply sufficient water purifying tablets and oral saline to the affected areas for preventing the disease," said the minister while addressing as the chief guest in a meeting on flood situation arranged by the district disaster management committee at the conference room of Jamalpur district administration here.

Maya asked the physicians to pay visits regularly to each flood shelter centre, adding that physicians' absence and negligence would not be tolerated.

The committee members, including State Minister for Textile and Jute Mirza Azam, local lawmakers Rezaul Karim Hira and Mehjabin Khaled, Disaster Management and Relief Secretary M Shah Kamal and Director General of the Directorate of Disaster Management M Riaz Ahmed were also present.

Maya described facing the ongoing flood situation as a priority work for the government officials and warned that "irregularity and negligence of duty by government officials would not be tolerated."

Earlier, the ministry had distributed 325 tonnes of rice, Taka 9.50 lakh in cash and 4000 packets of dry food among the flood victims in Jamalpur district.

In addition to this, 200 tonnes of rice, Taka 5 lakh in cash and 2000 packets of dry food were distributed among the people of the district.

Later, the minister distributed relief materials at various places under Islampur upazila of the district.
