Flood situation deteriorates in Jamalpur

The overall flood situation in the district further deteriorated as the water level in Jamuna river was continuing to rise, reports BSS.Bangladesh Water Development Board officials said, Jamuna rose by 3 cm and was flowing 87 cm over the red mark at Bahadurabad Ghat point in the last 24 hours till 12 noon today.With the continuous rising of the water level, more fresh areas of Islampur, Dewanganj, Melandaha, Sarishabari, Madarganj. Bakshiganj and Jamalpur sadar upazila in the district were inundated by the flood water.District Relief and Rehabilitation office said flood water affected about two lakh people living in 403 villages in all the seven upazilas of the district.District Training Officer at Department of Agriculture Extension, Md Abu Hanif said flood water submerged standing crops on 6,220 hectares of land. Of them, T-Aman seed bed on 307 hectares, vegetables on 1,064 hectares, Aus paddy on 644 hectares, jute on 4,190 hectares and other crop on 15 hectares of land have been inundated, he added.District Relief and Rehabilitation officer, Tanvir Hossain said 250 tonnes of rice, Tk 4 lakhs 75 thousands in cash and 4 thousands packets of dried food were distributed among the flood victims till today.
