International Crimes Tribunal-1 (ICT-1) sentenced Obaidul Haque Taher and Ataur Rahman Noni of Netrakona to death for their crimes against humanity during the war of liberation in 1971.A three-member tribunal bench, headed by Justice Mohammad Anwarul Haque, delivered the verdict on Tuesday noon.The accused duo are facing six charges, including those for mass killing, abduction, looting and arson attack, during the 1971 Liberation War.Earlier on Monday the tribunal announced that the verdict for Ataur Rahman Noni and Obaidul Haque Taher will be delivered on Tuesday.On January 11, the tribunal concluded the trial and kept its verdict pending.On March 2 last year the ICT-1 framed six charges against the two for their alleged involvement in crimes against humanity during the country’s Liberation War.According to the prosecution, the two were involved in the abduction and killing of at least 15 persons and looting and setting fire to between 400 and 450 houses in 1971.Taher and Noni were arrested on Aug 12, 2014.
