2 women held with 40 gold bars at Shahjalal

Customs intelligence on Wednesday detained two women and seized 40 gold bars from their possessions at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

"Nasim Akter and Jesmin Akter, both in their mid 30s, came here from Chittagong on a Regent Airways flight RX-724. Acting on information, customs intelligence members challenged and detained them. Later the lady officials of the customs frisked them and found 20 gold bars hidden under their clothes with scotch tape," a customs release said.

In the primary investigation, Nasima said she is from Chakaria, Cox`s Bazar and Jesmin is from Satkania of Chittagong. One Imrul hired them for Taka eight thousand and 10 thousand respectively for carrying the gold to Dhaka.

"The detainees said the gold bars were there in the plane under seat covers and handed over to them on the mid flight," the release added.

Customs officials said the seized gold bars valued at Taka 2.30 crore will be handed over to Bangladesh Bank.

The detainees were handed over to Airport Police Station.
