Malaysian police arrested 5 over abducting Bangladeshi

Malaysian police nabbed five suspects allegedly involved in the kidnapping of a Bangladeshi worker in USJ last week, thesundaily reports.The victim was later found in a jungle in Ulu Yam along with one of his kidnappers, a 19-year-old Myanmar national, on Jan 26.Subang Jaya police chief ACP Yahaya Ramli on Friday said initial investigation revealed that the suspects demanded a ransom of RM400,000 from the victim’s family in Bangladesh and threatened to kill him.It is learnt that a sum of RM30,000 had already been transferred from Bangladesh via an online transaction previously.The victim, 39, was kidnapped from a mini market in Court 7 USJ 14 by two men in a car on Jan 22.In a series of arrests, police have managed to collect part of the ransom money amounting to almost RM7,000.Yahaya added that the ringleader, a 42-year-old local, was caught at a hotel in Sri Gombak on Jan 26 and police confiscated RM2,000 cash and identification card belonging to a Special Intelligence Unit officer of the National Security Department. The fake identification card was registered under the ring leader’s name.`The previous night, an additional RM4,980 was seized from two Burmese contractors in a restaurant in Semenyih."A total of five suspects have been nabbed by the police, including three Myanmar nationals and two locals.“Usually, these kidnap cases only involve one community, not both Bangladesh and Myanmar nationals,” Yahaya said, describing the case as “strange”.He added that police have initiated a search for the remaining two suspects who were with the victim in Ulu Yam.The suspects will face a seven year jail term and fine if found guilty.Meanwhile, Subang Jaya CID also busted a syndicate known as “Geng Naim”, comprising of 12 youths believed to be involved with several house break-ins and vehicle thefts around Klang Valley.The suspects, aged between 17 to 27 years are believed to be “Mat Rempit” members. Also seized were a motorcycle and spare parts during separate raids in Puchong and in Besut, Terengganu.
