Khaleda’s testimony submission in graft case deferred again

A Dhaka special court on Thursday deferred till June 29 the submission of testimonies by BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia in her defence in Zia Orphanage Trust and Zia Charitable Trust graft cases.Dhaka Special Judge Court-5 passed the order as lawyer of the BNP chief pleaded for time in her presence.Today was fixed for submitting Khaleda Zia’s testimony in self-defence in both the graft cases.Khaleda’s counsel Aminul Islam cross-examined Zia Charitable Trust graft case investigation officer and deputy director of Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Harunur Rashid in part. The defence after that pleaded for time and judge Dr Md Aktaruzzaman accepted the plea.The ACC on July 3, 2008, filed the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case with Ramna police station, accusing Khaleda, her son Tarique Rahman and four others for embezzlement of over Taka 21 million brought from abroad for using for the welfare of the orphans.The anti-graft body lodged Zia Charitable Trust graft case against Khaleda Zia and four others with Tejgaon Police Station on August 8 in 2011 for embezzling Taka 31.5 million from the trust.Source: BSS
