Che Guevara’s 90th birthday today

Today is the 90th birthday of Cuban-Argentinean revolutionary, physician and author Ernesto Che Guevara.

He was born in Rosario, Santa Fe province, Argentina on June 14, 1928.

Regarded as one of the greatest revolutionary ever born, he studied medicine before travelling around South America. Supporting Fidel Castro in overturning Batista’s government in the late 1950’s, he also held important political offices under Castro’s government.

Che Guevara is also regarded for his efforts in uplifting the literacy rate of Cuba. At the time of Cuban independence, literacy rate were less than 66% but through his dedication, just in one year the literacy rates increased to 93%.

He was captured and assassinated on October 9, 1967 at the age of 39, while actively leading a team of rebels to incite revolution in Bolivia.

At the time of his death, he had already become a key political figure. He is known for socialism and revolution. People from all over the world celebrate his birthday, today.
