If BNP does not join election, it will be harmful for it: Tofail

Commerce Minister and Awami League advisory council member Tofail Ahmed today said if BNP does not join the next general election, it will be harmful for the party.“We do not want any party to quit election. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina tried her best to make BNP participate in the January 5, 2014 national election. But they did not take part in the polls,” he said.The minister came up with the remarks while addressing the inaugural function of development activities of roads at Bhelumia union under sadar upazila here.Tofail said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina invited BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia to Ganabhaban and even announced to give them ministry during election-time. “Even after that BNP did not come to election,” he said.The AL leader expressed his hope that BNP will join in the next general election as the party would not make the same mistake again.Tofail said the parliament election will be held under the incumbent government as per the constitution and it would conduct regular activities during election-time.He referred that many countries including India, Singapore, Australia and the UK hold election under ruling party.District Awami League general secretary and zila parishad chairman Abdul Mamin Tulu, sadar upazila Awami League president and upazila parishad chairman Md Mosharraf Hossain and district LGED executive engineer Md Shakhawat Hossain were present on the occasion, among others.Source: BSS
