Azam Khan’s 6th death anniv today

Today is the sixth death anniversary of Azam Khan, the legendary Bangladeshi singer, who certainly created a major impact as far as the music scene of Bangladesh is concerned.

Marking the day, Azam Khan’s family will organize milad at residence of his daughter Ima Khan.

Born in 1950, Azam Khan is considered as the individual who introduced the pop genre to Bangladeshis and together with pop music contemporaries Fakir Alamgir, Ferdous Wahid, Firoz Shai, Najma Zaman, and Pilu Momtaz, created that impact that would forever leave a legacy.

He was the lead singer of the rock band Uchcharan, founded in 1972. 

The memorable songs such as ‘Ore Saleka, Ore Maleka’, ‘Jibone Kichhu Pabona Re’, ‘Ami Jare Chaire’, ‘Ashi Ashi Bole Tumi’, ‘Obhimani’, ‘Rail liner Bostite’, ‘Hei Allah Hei Allah Re’, ‘Alal O Dulal’ that captivated the music lovers of the country and remain popular to this day.

A valiant freedom fighter Azam Khan fought against the Pakistani occupation forces in the war of independence in 1971 under the command of Brigadier Khaled Mosharraf in Sector 2.

Khan died on June 5, 2011 at the Dhaka CMH hospital at 61. He was suffering from lung cancer.
