A Dhaka court granted bail to Jatiya Party MP Salim Osman in a case filed for humiliating schoolteacher Shyamol Kanti Bhakta in public in Narayanganj.
Dhaka Chief Judicial Magistrate Jesmin Ara Begum on Tuesday granted the permanent bail to Osman after hearing and set July 4 the date for the charge framing hearing in this case.
Earlier, Salim Osman on May 14 surrendered before the court.
A video of the May 13, 2016 incident showed MP Salim making Piyar Sattar Latif High School Headmaster Bhakta squat up and down holding his ears, alleged for blasphemy.
The Jatiya Party lawmaker faced intense public criticism and outrage after the video went viral on the social media.
The five-member committee was formed on May 18, headed by upazila secondary education officer Nurul Amin, to investigate the incident ‘as the issue is very sensitive’.
