Awami League, the ruling party, is looking at the option of forming an ‘Islamic Forum’, like other wings of the party, sources said.Many central leaders of the party opined in favor of the forum though others opposed it arguing that Awami League is a secular party.They discussed the matter at a meeting held at the office of Awami League’s election management committee in Dhaka’s Dhanmondi on Monday.Awami League General Secretary, and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, who presided over the meeting, said, “I think, we need to form an Islamic Forum which will be able to hold different Islamic programmes in upcoming Ramdan.”Mahbub-Alam Hanif, joint general secretary, and Tipo Monsi, finance and planning affairs secretary of the party, opposed the proposal, said the source who was present at the meeting.Obaidul Quader, however, said that he would discuss the matter with the party chief and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina who would take ultimate decision.(The article originally published in Bangla edition of Jagonews24.com is written in English by Zahidul Islam)
