Karwan Bazar-FDC flyover opened to traffic

The Karwan Bazar-FDC part of the Moghbazar- Satrasta-Eskaton-Mouchak Flyover was opened to traffic on Wednesday morning, which would ease farther the traffic movement in the capital city, reports BSS.

Minister for Local Government and Rural Development (LGRD) Engineer Khandkar Mosharraf Hossain inaugurated the flyover at a brief event arranged in front of Sonargaon Hotel by Local Government Engineering Department (LGED).

The 450-meter Karwan Bazar-FDC flyover is a part of 8700 meters Moghbazar- Mouchak Flyover project, which has been designed to connect a vast area of the capital city to a fast moving road infrastructure system.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina laid the foundation stone of the project on February 16, 2013. The prime minister also inaugurated the first phase of the 2.1-kilometre Holy Family-Satrasta section of the flyover on March 30 last year.

Another major portion of the flyover, from Wireless to Satrasta via Moghbazar, was opened to traffic on September 16, 2016.

"The Mouchak portion of the flyover will be opened before Eid, which would reduce the traffic congestions in the city to a great extent," the LGRD minister said after inaugurating the new portion of the huge flyover.

He said the government is working persistently on making Dhaka a clean and traffic congestion-free city.

The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) approved the flyover project in 2011. The government approved a fund of Taka 1218.89 crore for this major infrastructure project.

The LGED is implementing the project, financed by Saudi Fund for Development (SFD) and OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID).
