Finance Minister AMA Muhith today hinted at increasing the revenue growth target to 30 percent in the upcoming 2017-18 financial year (FY18).
"We are going to give several pushes this year. We will increase the revenue growth up to 30 percent," he said while addressing a pre-budget meeting with editors and managing directors or chief executive officers (CEO) of different print and electronic media at the finance ministry conference room in the city.
Muhith said that the revenue growth rate has been around 15 to 16 per cent over the last few years.
He said the revenue earning target would be increased in the new budget as the next budget (FY19) would be an election budget.
Mentioning the ongoing development of the country, he said, Bangladesh is one of the best growing economies in the world due to consistent growth of above 6.5 percent over the last several years.
This year, the finance minister said, he is going to announce the `best budget` of his life.
Muhith said the upcoming budget will focus on different sectors including education, health and electricity.
Human Resource Development will also be a top priority sector in the upcoming budget, he added.
Responding to a question on BNP`s Vision-2030 programme, he declined to make any comment, saying he did not read it in detail. "But it is good for the country as we have a projection by an important party," he added.
Senior journalists including Shykh Seraj and Nayeemul Islam Khan, among others, were present at the meeting.
