Haor Advocacy Platform (HAP) advisor and IT expert Mustafa Jabbar said the government should form a separate ministry for haors people to meet their crisis.
He made the remark while addressing a press conference organized by HAP at the National Press Club on “Prevention of crops in haors areas, reformation of embankment and rehabilitation information and way out” on Tuesday.
“Haors development directorate is not sufficient for the two crore people in the haor areas to protect them during emergency,” he said.
He also said that the government should talk with India to settle the issue as every year the flashflood is caused by them.
However, HAT recommended some points for the haors people such as- taking an initiative to free haors people from moneylender, establishing embankment in vulnerable areas by the month of Magh (a Bengali month).
HAT proposed that the government has to create a strong monitoring cell to execute its good initiatives.
The government distributed a total of 2,015 Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) cards to the haors people but it needed 2,654 cards more.
Sharifuzzamn Sharif, Joint Convener of the Organization, read out the written statement. Among others, Aminul Islam, Subal Das, A K M Musa were present at the program.
