Qatar eager to recruit manpower from Bangladesh

Qatar is eager to recruit skilled professionals along with semi-skilled and un-skilled workers from Bangladesh and to invest the country’s LNG and power generation sectors.“The government of Qatar is willing to recruit professionals like doctors, engineers, IT experts, bankers and management specialists alongside semi-skilled and un-skilled workers from Bangladesh,” said Qatari Labour Minister Dr. Issa Saad in Doha on Sunday.The Qatari minister expressed his country’s willingness to this end when Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali held a meeting with him in Doha on Sunday, according to a message received here today.The Bangladesh foreign minister is now on a three-day official visit to Doha at the invitation of his Qatari counterpart Sheikh Mohammed Bin Abdulrahman Bin Jassim Al-Thani.During the meeting, the the Labour Minister of Qatar informed Ali about the new legislation promulgated by Qatar on manpower recruitment and held out its various positive aspects such as wage protection and rights to change job in line with the ILO standard.He also proposed for developing a mechanism to establish a web-based direct connection between the employers and workers.Foreign Minister Ali proposed for establishing training facilities for Qatar-bound workers from Bangladesh to impart requisite training as per the job requirement and also in Arabic language.The Bangladesh Foreign Minister had a series of meetings with the Qatari leaders including paying a courtesy call on the Prime Minister of Qatar Sheikh Abdullah Bin Nasser Bin Khalifa Al Thani at the Qatari Amiri Dewane on Sunday morning.In the meeting, Ali presented a robust picture and prospects of Bangladesh-Qatar bilateral relations in the field of trade, investment, defense, energy and power generation.The Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Abdullah lauded the leadership of Bangladesh for its remarkable achievements. He also praised the honest and hardworking Bangladeshi workers now numbering 3,80,000 for their contribution in the development of Qatar.Source: BSS
