World Press Freedom Day observed

World Press Freedom Day was observed today in the country as elsewhere across the globe.

The theme of this year`s World Press Freedom Day is "Critical minds for critical times: Media`s role in advancing peaceful, just and participatory society."

Jatiya Press Club organized a seminar on "Current situation of free press in Bangladesh" at the JPC on the occasion of the World Press Freedom Day.

At the seminar, Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu said journalists of both print and electronic media in the country are working independently as the present government believes in press freedom.

Describing media as architect of building conscience of nation, he said journalists should practice objective journalism for well-being of the people of the country.

Prime Minister`s Media Advisor Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury, senior journalists, representatives of different organizations, among others, addressed the seminar with JPC President Shafiqur Rahman in the chair.

President of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) Manjurul Ahsan Bulbul presented the keynote paper at the seminar.

Bangladesh Online Media Association also organized a discussion at the JPC to observe the day.

Prime Minister`s Media Advisor Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury addressed the discussion as the chief guest while BFUJ Secretary General Omar Faruque spoke as the special guest.
