Anisuzaman receives Ananda Purashkar

Noted writer and academician, professor emeritus Anisuzzaman has received the Ananda Purashkar for the Bangla year 1423.

Anisuzzaman was given the award for the third part of his autobiography, Bipula Prithibi.

The award from India’s Bangla-language daily Anandabazar Patrika was conferred on the 80-year-old author on Saturday.

Poet Shankha Ghosh handed the award to Anisuzzaman at a special programme held in a Kolkata hotel on Saturday evening.

Accepting the award, Anisuzzaman said it was a great honour, and receiving it from Ghosh was yet another.

He said often one man regards another with suspicion and fear because he does not know the other. One way of knowing another is through literature, and it applies to two neighbouring countries as well.

He said he would like those who were working with the Bengali language to keep this in mind.
