4 militants killed in C’nawabganj drive

Four militants were found dead as the members of law enforcement agencies this evening wrapping up of their two-day operation “Eagle Hunt” at Shibganj here.Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of police of Rajshahi range Khurshed Hossain told BSS after end of the drive around 6:45 this evening.One of the dead was identified as “Rafiqul Islam alias Abu, the DIG said, adding that identity of the three others is yet to be ascertained.Two persons including a minor girl who were rescued from the militant’s den with serious splinter injuries are undergoing treatment at a local hospital,” he said.Law enforcement agencies including Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), local police and a SWAT (Special Weapons and Tactics) team resumed its second day operation at Shibnagar Trimohoni ‘militant den’ this morning.Sounds of sporadic gunshots, according to witnesses, were heard from the den this morning.A SWAT team of the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) under Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) started the operation around 6:45pm on Wednesday.Suspecting it a ‘militant den’, a team of the local police and members of Counter Terrorism Unit encircled the house of one Saidur Rahman alias Jentu Biswas Wednesday morning.Immediately after presence of the law enforcers, militants opened fire at them and the law enforcers also retaliated, said the deputy commissioner of Counter Terrorism Unit Mohibul Islam.Before the operation, the law enforcers in loud speakers asked the inmates and insiders of the house to surrender. But they did not respond to the call, forcing the law enforcers to go for the operation.Source: BSS
