At least 12 were burnt as a devastating fire broke out in a spinning mill at Rupganj of Narayanganj early Thursday. A gas pipeline in the mill exploded and soon the fire engulfed other parts of the mill, said Lion BM Atiqur Rahman, director of Nowab Spinning Mill. Four fire fighter units took the fire under control after a two-hour effort. Injured are identified as Roknuzzaman (37), Hafizul Islam (18), Hasib Hossain (18), Nasima Akhter (16), Hawa Begum (18), Wadud Mia (25), Ismail Hossain (42), Asma Begum (30), Afroza Banu (30), Kohinur Begum (35), Rimu Khatun (14) and Noyon Tara (14). The injured were rushed to the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Some of them are in critical condition with 70% burn, said Patha Shankar Paul, residential physician of DMC burn unit. Owners claimed the estimated damage is about Tk 50 crore including machineries and raw materials.
