President Abdul Hamid has expressed profound shock at the death of Lt Gen J F R Jacob (retd), who played an important role as a major general of Indian Army during Bangladesh`s Liberation War in 1971.In a condolence message today, the President recalled the role of General Jacob with deep respects in the Liberation War and said the Bengali nation would remember him (Jacob) for ever with gratitude."Bangladesh has lost a genuine friend in his death," said Abdul Hamid.He prayed for salvation of the departed soul of General Jacob and conveyed sympathy to the members of his bereaved family.General Jacob, 92, a retired officer of the Indian Army, breathed his last this morning at a military hospital in Delhi after a prolonged illness.
