Corruption Prevention Week begins on Sunday

The Anti-Corruption Commission ((ACC) is set to observe ‘Corruption Prevention Week-2017’ from Sunday, for the seven consecutive years, to create awareness among the people against the menace.ACC has chalked out an elaborate progrmme marking the week, with the slogan ‘Stop Corruption - Save Person, Save Nation’, which is scheduled to be concluded on April 1.Chairman of the country’s lone anti-graft body, Iqbal Mahmood will formally inaugurate the Corruption Prevention Week at the ACC’s headquarters at Segunbagicha in the capital tomorrow morning.An anti-graft cartoon exhibition will also be inaugurated at the commission’s media centre tomorrow and it will be open for all during the week from 9:00am to 5:00pm.On March 27, an anti-corruption convention and oath taking programme will be arranged for the young people at Osmani Memorial Auditorium, where Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury is expected to attend as the chief guest.On March 28, an anti-graft human chain programme will be held at 10:00am in front of the Jatiya Press Club. The ACC Media Award-2016 will be given at 03:00pm on the same day to be held at ACC conference room. Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor is likely to attend the event as chief guest.On March 29, a discussion will be held at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy’s Jatiya Natyashala auditorium with participation of the ACC’s metropolitan, district and upazila-level corruption prevention committees. Best members of the corruption prevention committees will be rewarded in the function. Finance Minister AMA Muhith is expected to attend the programme as the chief guest.On March 30, a seminar on ‘Comprehensive Effort against Corruption’ will be held at the ACC conference room at 10:30am with participation of different stakeholders such as politicians, government officials, university teachers, media personalities and NGO representatives.On March 31, special speech against the menace of corruption will be delivered at different mosques including Baitul Mukarram during the Jumma prayer at the request by the ACC.On the last day of the week on April 1, the ACC will arrange essay writing, poster and cartoon drawing, and debate competitions with participation of the students from different educational institutions across the country to be held at the Shilpakala Academy in the city.Noted writer Professor Dr. Muhammed Zafar Iqbal of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, Sylhet will attend the function.Source: BSS
