PM opens armed forces` warfare display

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the combined Warfare Display of the Bangladesh Army, Navy and Air Force here today marking the Independence and National Day-2017.

The Prime Minister cut a ribbon and released balloons to inaugurate the seven-day exhibition at the National Parade Square this afternoon.

After the inauguration, fighter planes of Bangladesh Air Force passed over the display venue while the paratroopers made successful landing on the parade square.

The Prime Minister went round different stalls and pavilions set up by the three forces and witnessed various light and heavy warfare.

She visited the stalls displaying the contributions and bravery of the Armed Forces during the War of Liberation, stalls displaying the modernization and development of the Armed Forces over the last eight years of the present Awami League government.

She also visited the stalls and pavilions of three services showcasing the activities of the Armed Forces in nation building and contributions of the Armed Forces in the UN Peacekeeping Missions.

During the visit, the Prime Minster was briefed about the features of various stalls.

Sheikh hasina also witnessed a colorful aerobatics show performed by a MiG-29 and MiG 21 fighter planes.

The prime minister also enjoyed a musical and dance programme presented by artistes of Swadhin Bangla Betrar Kendra and others.

Earlier, on her arrival at the National Parade Square, the Prime Minister was received by Army Chief General Abu Belal Muhammad Shafiul Huq, Navy Chief Admiral Nizamuddin Ahmed, Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal Abu Esrar and Principal Staff Officer (PSO) of the Armed Forces Division (AFD) Md. Mahfuzur Rahman.

Cabinet members, advisers to the Prime Minister, members of parliament, secretaries, ambassadors, high civil and military officials were present on the occasion.

The display will remain open for civilians from 9.30 am to 5.30 pm on March 23, 26, 27 and 29. On March 24, the display will remain open from 9.30 am to 12 noon for common people.

On March 28, it will remain open from 9.30 am to 5.30 pm only for family members of the armed forces and students of military schools and colleges.

Special arrangements will be there from 12 noon to 5.30 pm for students of schools and colleges of Dhaka city with common people on March 29, the release said.
