The “Ektee Bari, Ektee Khamar”(one house, one farm) Project, one of premier’s 10 special initiatives, so far benefited as many as 1.22 crore people of 22 lakh families since it was launched in 2009, Rural Development and Cooperatives Secretary Dr Prashanto Kumar Roy said on Wednesday.“The Prime Minister’s Ektee Bari, Ektee Khamar project appeared as a model at home and abroad benefiting so far 1.22 crore people,” spokesman of the Rural Development and Cooperatives Division quoted Roy as telling a “uthan boithak” or courtyard meeting at Sonamanandi village in Sonargaon upazila of Narayanganj.He added another 36 lakh families would be incorporated under the project in next three months as the project was underway.Roy also visited the project at the village.“Under the scheme a total of 40,527 cooperative societies have already been formed,” he said, adding every society has been constituted with 60 persons -- 40 females and 20 males.Roy said Bangladesh will be turned into a middle-income country by 2021 with cent percent implementation of the project.Project Director Akbar Hossain, Upazila Chairman Nasima Akther, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Shahinur Islam and UP Chairman Zahid Hassan Jinnah, among others, were present.Source: BSS
