Flame Eternal gets new look to mark Independence Day

The look of Flame eternal was different a few days back. However, as the Independence Day is approaching, it is being prepared and decorated to pay homage.Dozens of workers including both male and female are working under the supervision of Public Works Department officials to decorate Flame Eternal.Workers were seen cutting weeds, cleaning and washing the premises of the symbol of liberation war.Ataur Rahman Khan, a section officer of Public Works Department, said that he looked after the beautification works at Shurawardy Udyan.He confessed that it was impossible for them to keep the area neat and clean as the people didn’t keep garbage at the specific place.However, some visitors at the Udyan alleged that the authorities didn’t take care the area round the year except special events.Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the Father of the Bengali Nation, delivered his historic speech on March 7, 1971 standing the place where the Flame Eternal is now located.In his speech, the leader said, “The struggle this time is a struggle for emancipation and the struggle this is a struggle for independence.”After nine-month long liberation war from 26 March, 1971, Bangladesh achieved independence from Pakistan.(The article originally published in Bangla edition of Jagonews24.com is written in English by Zahidul Islam)
