Jute fair draws huge crowds

Many visitors of the jute fair did not have any idea that it was possible to produce sofa, saree and toys by jute.However, the jute fair showcased some rare products made by jute.The three day long fair held on diversified jute goods is being held at the Krishibid Institution auditorium in the capital Dhaka.Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the fair. Textiles and Jute Ministry organized it marking National Jute Day 2017.The visitors were surprised as they saw from sofa to tea table, Saree to bed sheet and even chess board and chessman that are made of jute fibre at the fair.At the Jute Diversification Promotion Centre (JDPC) stall, there is a charming house decorated with jute products like sofa, tea table and different toys on it and chandelier, lampshade, dining table and window curtain.There are also cot, bed and a sheet on it, gown, coat and saree, which are made of jute fibre.There is a chess board and chess pieces are set on it. There are chairs beside the board. All the things are made of jute fibre, golden fibre of Bangladesh.“We have a sales centre at Tejgaon, where we sell jute products round the year at affordable price,” JPDC director Mainul Haq informed visitors.Khaka Iqbal of Sonali Ash Limited stall informed that they export jute products to Europe and America.Habib Rahman, an owner of a stall, said that a good number of women work in the sector.“We not only earn foreign currency but also create jobs for thousands of women,” he said.(The article originally published in Bangla edition of Jagonews24.com is written in English by Zahidul Islam)
