World Kidney Day today

The `World Kidney Day` is being celebrated in the country as elsewhere in the world aiming to expedite awareness campaign to prevent kidney ailment.The theme of this year`s World Kidney Day is "Kidney Disease and Obesity: Healthy lifestyle for healthy kidney"In separate messages on the eve of the World Kidney Day, President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina urged all to work together to create awareness among the people about prevention and treatment of kidney disease.They said the number of kidney patients is gradually increasing in the country because of defective birth, genetic disorders, nephritis, diabetes, high blood pressure and taking of pain killing drugs.Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, different government and non-government organizations including Kidney Foundation, Bangladesh Renal Association, Kidney Awareness Monitoring and Prevention Society (KAMPS) and Save Life Foundation and Gift Life Foundation have jointly taken various programmes marking the `World Kidney Day`.The programmes include rally, discussion, seminar and free kidney check up.Kidney Foundation, Bangladesh Renal Association, Kidney Awareness Monitoring and Prevention Society (KAMPS) will bring out a rally at 9am tomorrow from Institute of Diploma Engineers to Matshay Bhaban.At the Jatiya Press Club on March 8(today), President of Bangladesh Renal Association Dr Muhammad Rafiqul Alam said, "The number of kidney patients has increased alarmingly as two crore people in the country are now somehow suffering from kidney disease."Kidney Awareness Monitoring and Prevention Society (KAMPS) organized a roundtable on "Kidney Disease and Obesity: Healthy lifestyle for healthy kidney" at the Jatiya Press Club on March 3.Referring to the WHO study, Prof. Samad at the roundtable said obesity is one of the 10 death risks. Once upon a time the communicable disease was the main reason for death worldwide, but now in Bangladesh more than 65 percent deaths are caused by non-communicable disease and obesity creates many life-killing diseases.He said obesity is directly linked with Kidney disease, overweight directly causes harm of Nephron of kidney and indirectly causes harm of kidney by high blood pressure, diabetes and heart disease.Source: BSS
