PSC submits annual report to President

Bangladesh Public Service Commission (PSC) plans to hold the tests of Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) in English from next year along with Bangla language.President Abdul Hamid was informed of the plan when a 13-member PSC delegation, led by PSC Chairman Dr Mohammad Sadik, met him at Bangabhaban this afternoon to submit the Commission`s annual report of 2016 to him.President`s Press Secretary Joynal Abedin briefed reporters after the meeting.During the meeting, Dr Sadik apprised the President of different aspects of the report and the Commission`s activities in the previous years.He said the PSC in 2006 recommended that authorities concerned recruit 12,876 candidates (2,172 cadre posts and 10,704 non-cadre posts) in public service, while a total of 46,878 candidates (26,193 cadre posts and 20,685 non-cadre posts) were recommended in 2009-2016.Noting that steps have already been taken to translate three laws of the Commission into Bangla, Sadik said the issue of the Commission`s financial independence is also under process.The PSC chairman said the Commission has introduced formulation of question papers and holding examinations under its own management on experimental basis.President Abdul Hamid asked the PSC authorities to examine answer-sheets of candidates accurately so that competent and brilliant candidates get opportunity to avail jobs. "If necessary, reexamine the answer-sheets of candidates in this regard," he said.The President suggested using the ICT in the activities of the PSC to ensure transparency and accountability in the process.Source: BSS
