Bangladesh earned Taka 7,294.40 crore by exporting 19.62 lakh bales of jute and jute goods in 2015-16 fiscal, Tk 875.50 crore up from the previous fiscal, Textiles and Jute Minister Muhammad Imajuddin Pramanik said today.“The country produced 82.46 lakh bales of jute in the last fiscal, while the quantity of jute and jute goods exported during the period was 19.62 lakh bales,” he said in reply to a scripted query from treasury bench member Nizam Uddin Hazari (Feni-2).The minister informed the House that the country fetched Tk 1054.40 crore in the last fiscal by exporting 11.37 lakh bales of jute, while Tk 6240 crore were earned by exporting 8.25 lakh bales of jute goods during the period.Imajuddin also said Tk 6418.90 crore were earned in the 2014-15 fiscal by exporting 18.19 lakh bales of jute and jute products.Of the amount, he said, Tk 816.74 crore were fetched by exporting 10.01 lakh bales of jute, while the export earnings from jute goods was Tk 5602.16 crore.Responding to another written question raised by Awami League lawmaker Advocate Rahmat Ali (Gazipur-3), the minister said Bangladesh exports jute to 13 countries.“The countries are India, Pakistan, Nepal, China, Russia, the UK, Ivory Coast, Vietnam, Djibouti, the Philippines, Brazil, El Salvador and the USA,” he said.Besides, he said, jute goods are now being exported to 118 countries of the world.Source: BSS
