BNP-Jamaat tries to dominate fair polls: Imam

Awami League`s election conducting committee chairman HT Imam said polling is continuing in festive mood, but BNP-Jamaat is trying to establish its domination in the polls."The government has adopted the policy of zero tolerance against any foul practice in the peaceful election. Disorders have taken place in a few areas because of excess of some members of the law enforcing authorities and administration. We came here to inform the Election Commission about this matter so that the commission can take urgent measures," he told reporters at the Election Commission Secretariat on Wednesday afternoon.Replying to a question on BNP`s allegation Imam said "It is not new.Earlier, we have noticed the incidents that they themselves caused. They came to Election Commission with fictitious allegations". he said.Imam said the Election Commission is an independent institution. It has the authority to take any measures for the sake of holding a peaceful election."The election environment is, so far, fair. The postponement of polls at 14 centers among 3,555 is not a big matter. As Jamaat cannot participate in the polls, they are giving all-out cooperation to BNP and are trying to dominate," he said.HT Imam led a seven-member team to the commission.
