28 female Jamaat activists remanded for 2 days

A Dhaka court on Friday remanded 28 female activists of the Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh for two days each in a case filed against them under the Special Powers Act.Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Delowar Hossain passed the order after police sought seven-day remand on Friday.Police detained them from a house at Tajmahal Road in Mohammadpur on Thursday afternoon.Assistant Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Hafiz Al Faruk said they are involved in Jamaat-e-Islami and Chhatri Sangstha.Police claimed that they were planning to carry out sabotage and to oust the government.SM Kamaluddin and Abdur Razzak, the lawyers for the accused persons, in bail petition said, “Jamaat-e-Islami is a legal political party. It was an organizational meeting on Thursday. We were not planning sabotage.”The arrestees are Shanaz Begum, Naema Akter, Umme Khaleda, Zohra Begum, Sayeda Shaheena Akter, Umme Kulsum, Jesmin Khan, Khodeza Akter, Salma Haq, Sakia Taslim, Selima Sultana Sweety, Hafsa, Aklima Ferdous, Roksana Begum, Afsana Mimi, Sharifa Akter, Rubina Akter, Taslima, Asma Khatun, Sufia, Anowara Begum, Yasmin Akter, Sadia, Fatema Begum, Umme Atia, Ruma Akter, Razia Akter and Rahima Khatun.(The article originally published in Bangla edition of Jagonews24.com is written in English by Zahidul Islam)
