Development not possible without tech education: Nahid

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid on Saturday said technical education is our future. Development is not possible without technical education.‘Efforts are going on to increase students’ access to technical education to 20 per cent by 2020 and 30 per cent by 2030,’ he said speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony of Skills Competition 2015 at the Institute of Diploma Engineers Bangladesh (IDEB) in the city.The minister said, currently, the rate of technical education in the country is 10 per cent, which was only one per cent during the last tenure of Awami League government.Skills and Training Enhancement Project (STEP) under the department of technical education organized the programme with the theme ‘Technical education and vocational training for sustainable development.’Presided over by Department of Technical Education Director General Ashok Kumar Biswas, the function was also addressed, among others, by Education Secretary M Sohrab Hossain, STEP Project Director M. Imran and Technical Education Board Chairman Dr. M Mosfafizur Rahmanand IDEB President AKMA Hamid.
