Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal today said Bangladesh has been successful in curbing militancy and terrorism though many countries of the world are faltering with this."It has been possible because of the incumbent Prime Minister`s firm stance and the people`s mind-set against militancy and terrorism," he said speaking as chief guest at a function marking the surrendering of a bandit group of the Sundarbans at the office of RAB-8 at Rupatali in the city.The home minister said Islam is the religion of peace and there is no room for the killers in Islam."Those who are killing people are enemies of Islam," he added.Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said the government has been able to resist militancy as the people do not support it.As a continuation of this, the government will be successful to eliminate the bandits in the Sundarbans, he said and called upon the remaining three bandit groups to surrender availing of the opportunities given by the government.Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Director General Benazir Ahmed was present on the occasion as special guest while RAB-8 Commander Lt. Col. Anowar Uzzaman was in the chair.RAB-6 Commander Khondaker Rafiqul Islam, Barisal Range Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Sheikh Muhammad Maruf Hassan, Barisal Police Commissioner SM Ruhul Amin and Barisal Deputy Commissioner Gazi M. Saifuzzaman were present, among others.Members of bandit group known as Jahangir Bahini surrendered at the function with 31 local and foreign firearms and 1,507 rounds of ammunition.They include Jahangir Shikari, Sheikh Farid, M Akram Sheikh, M Faruf Sheikh, M Mostahar Sheikh, M Ershad Khan, Gazi Tariqul Islam, M Kamrul Sheikh, M Kamrul Hassan, M Haider Sheikh, M Harun Sheikh, Aiyub Ali Sheikh, M Mafiqul Gazi, M Kabir Gazi, Palash Hossain, M Baser Sikder, M Abdul Hannan Sardar, M Izaj Molla, M Mohsin Morol and M Yakub Sarder.
