State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid, MP, has said the present government is pledged bound to reach uninterrupted power supply to all houses within next five years.He said the government has adopted short, medium and long term planning for power generation in order to implement its election manifesto."We have targeted to bring all citizens under electricity coverage by 2021 and now 5.50 lakh people get power connection per month, which was only 43,000 earlier," Nasrul said.The state minister was addressing a power consumers gathering on the occasion of inaugurating a 10-megawatt power substation on Hatgangopara School playground under Bagmara upazila of the district yesterday as chief guest.The substation was constructed at a cost of around Taka 41 crore having capacity of power supply to people of around 30 kilometers area.Engineer Enamul Haque, MP, Zila Parishad Chairman Muhammad Ali Sarker and Upazila Chairman Jakirul Islam Santu spoke as special guest with Advocate Ibrahim Hossain in the chair.Nasrul Hamid says the government has been working relentlessly with the main thrust of generating 20,000 megawatt power by 2021. At present, it has attained capacity to generate 15,000 megawatt.He told the audience that main motto of the government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is to improve living and livelihood condition of the poor and other vulnerable communities.He said the power generation capacity reached 15,351 megawatt (MW), three times higher, and the number of beneficiaries reached to 80 percent from 47 percent before 2009.He said the government is marching forward by materialising the Vision-2021 and his ministry is working to provide electricity connection to individual client within one working day, while connection of power to industrial units within a shortest time.Source: BSS
