At least a hundred thousand smart cards would be provided to Bangladesh workers now working in Malaysia, state minister for foreign affairs Mohammad Shahriar Alam said yesterday, assuring the card would act as a legal shield for two years for the workers.“They (Bangladesh workers) would get an opportunity to work there (Malaysia) up to two years and upon their return at home, they again be able to migrate to Malaysia,” the state minister said while unveiling a book on migrants experience at Dhaka University Senate Hall here.Refugee and Migratory Movements Research Unit (RMMRU), a non-profit, published the book titled “Untold Stories of Migrants: Dreams and Realities” based on small stories of several migrants worked abroad.Shahriar Alam said an estimated 5-7 lakh Bangladesh workers would get employment this year in Malaysia, process for movement of 10-15 thousand have started already, while thousands others to get job in new labour markets.He said the government has been promoting safe migration at least costs under the government to government (G2G) arrangements and each worker would leave Dhaka once he has a valid visa online.The state minister also touched upon the safe migration issue for female and said Oman and Qatar have already taken necessary steps to punish their people who violated two Bangladesh women there. The government is also keeping a close eye on it, he added.Justice Dr Rifat Ahmed, Professor Dr Sumaiya Khair and Professor Dr Fakhrul Alam, among others, spoke on the occasion.Source: BSS
