A dacoit leader was killed by mass beating at Ashrafpur village of Meherpur sadar upazila on Monday early.The deceased robber was identified as Ijarul, son of Islam Ali of Bhabandapur village under the upazila.Ahsan Kabir, officer-in-charge of Meherpur Sadar Police Station, said a gang of some 12-14 robbers entered the house of Saudi expatriate Mintu, son of late Surat Ali in the night and tried to commit robbery.Sensing the presence of robbers, Mintu’s wife grabbed of them and raised hue and cry. Locals immediately rushed to the spot and circled the robbers. Though the robbers managed to flee blasting bombs, Ijarul got caught. Later, locals gave him a good thrashing, leaving him dead on the spot, he added.Being informed police recovered the body and sent it to Meherpur Sadar Hospital for autopsy. Police also recovered an LG short gun, a machete and two mobile phone set which are used by the robbers.
