Khadija Tul Kubra`s superb bowling display went to vain as Bangladesh women team`s missed a golden chance to square the series as they suffered a 17-run defeat against visiting South Africa women team in the second ODI of the five-match series held on Saturday at Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium in Cox`s Bazar.Despite the early loss of two top order batsmen, opener Sharmin Akter (74) and skipper Rumana Ahmed (68) kept Bangladesh in match and stretched their stubborn 127-run partnership to till 43 over for the third wicket stand.But after the departure of these two set batsmen, the remaining batsmen failed to complete the easy formality to take Bangladesh at home as their poor showing and their irresponsible batting saw the host team lose their last seven wickets only for 25 runs.Sharmin cracked 10 boundaries during her 127-ball stay on the crease while Rumana smashed five boundaries from 95 balls.Sun Luus and Marizanne Kapp were the most successful bowlers for South Africa they shared two wickets each giving away 31 and 41 runs respectively.Lizelle Lee of South Africa was named the player of the match for her impressive batting performance.Earlier, offbreak bowler Khadija Tul Kubra produced fierce bowling spells saw South Africa were bundled out for 223 in 49 overs after the visitors won toss and decided to bat first.Despite a confident 115-run opening partnership between opener L Lee and Andrie Steyn, the remaining batsmen failed to utilize the advantage as the visitors lost their remaining wickets for 108 runs.Opener Lizelle Lee, the also heroine of the South African`s first match victory, again carried her prolific form in the second match as she made a quick fire 70 off 57 balls hitting 13 fours while Andrie Steyn supported her with a patient knock of 66 off 98 balls that featured 8 boundaries.Khadija Tul Kubra, the wrecker in-chief, as she grabbed four wickets conceding 56 runs while Nahida Akter, Lata Mondal, Panna Ghosh and Jahanara Alam shared one wicket apiece for Bangladesh.Earlier, Bangladesh went down the series 0-1 as they suffered a massive 86-run defeat in the first ODI.The third ODI between the two sides will be held on Monday (January 16) at the same venue.
