President of Diabetic Association of Bangladesh Professor A K Azad Khan has received the ‘IDF (International Diabetes Federation) Global Award’ for his outstanding contribution to the health care service for diabetic patients.Director (public relations) of Bangladesh Diabetic Association Farid Kabir informed that Professor Azad is the only Bangladeshi who has been given such a prestigious global award.IDF President Sir Michael Hirst handed over the award to Prof Azad at a programme recently at Vancouver in Canada.Representatives of 200 diabetic associations from 160 countries, specialist doctors and researchers attended the programme.Professor A K Azad has invented ‘5 ASA based drugs’ used for treatment of diseases related to gastro-enterology. He is also the pioneer of ‘Endoscopic’ service in Bangladesh.
