Victory Day celebrated across country

The 45th glorious Victory Day was celebrated across the country on Wednesday with a renewed pledge to establish a non-communal and prosperous Bangladesh as well as to complete the trial of war criminals.Our Gaibandha correspondent reports: the day`s programmes started with the placing of wreaths at the monument for martyred freedom fighters at the Poura Park in the town. Marking the day district administration, various cultural organizations, political parties and educational institutions chalked out elaborate programmes.The day was heralded with 31 gun salutes at the time of sun rising and national flag was hoisted atop all public and private buildings just after sun rise. An impressive march past by ansar, VDP, BNCC, scouts, students of Shishu Paribar, schools and colleges was held at Shah Abdul Hamid Stadium at 8.30 am.Later, a reception was accorded to the freedom fighters and the members of martyred families at the hall room of Gaibandha Government College (GGC) of the town at 11.30 am with DC M Abdus Samad in the chair.Whip of the Bangladesh Parliament Mahabub Ara Begum Gini addressed the function as the chief guest and SP M. Ashraful Islam, chief executive officer of ZP AKS Mahbubur Rahman, principal of GGC professor Zahedul Islam and commander of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangshad, district unit command Mobinul Haque were present as the special guests.Munshiganj correspondent said, at least 67 freedom fighters, who were injured in 1971-war, were accorded reception in the auditorium of Shilapkala Academy in the district. Al-haj Mohiuddin attended the programme as the chief guest.In Chapainawabganj, the day was celebrated with befitting manner. District administration, freedom fighters, political parties and various social and cultural organizations chalked out different programmes to mark the day.On the day, a colourful march past, discussion, cultural function, photo exhibition, sports competition and reception to the freedom fighters were held.Mymensingh correspondent said, the day was celebrated with a call for building Sonar Bangla as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman as well as hunger and poverty free prosperous Bangladesh.In Barisal, the day was celebrated here in a befitting manner. The day`s programmes started with 31 gun salute and placing wreaths at the foot of the monument of the martyred freedom fighters in front of the deputy commissioner`s office.In Habiganj, to mark the day, different socio and cultural organization placed wreathes at the foot of the monument of the martyred freedom fighters.The day was also celebrated in many other districts including Lalmonirhat, Panchagarh, Patuakhali, Joypurhat, Tangail, Jessore Narail Jamalpur, Rangamati, Magura, Kurigram and Netrakona.
