Quader for holding students` council elections

Awami League General Secretary Oabidul Quader today urged the education minister and concerned authorities of countrywide educational institutions including Dhaka University to hold students` council elections."Please ensure the elections to DUCSU (Dhaka University Central Students` Union) and other students` union to create a congenial atmosphere for exercising democracy," he said while inaugurating the 69th founding anniversary programme of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), student wing of ruling Awami League at the altar of Aparajeo Bangla on Dhaka University campus.

Quader, also the road, transports and bridges minister, stressed the need for holding students` union election to build up new leaderships in the greater interest of the country as well as democracy.Expressing his grave concern over not holding such any election since last 25 years, the minister said, "If the polls were held regularly, country would get more 50 new leaders." "When election is held regularly, the candidates usually will behave well with all," The former BCL president added.Quader asked BCL leaders to be more cautious about the intruders in Chhatra League as they create different problems aimed at tarnishing the image of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Awami League and this student organization.He categorically directed the BCL leaders not to form any pocket committee of Chhatra League and also evaluate the real and bonafide party leaders and workers always.The AL general secretary was also very critical of BNP saying, "BNP has meantime proved itself a failed party, their leader sand workers are frustrated after the Narayanganj City Corporation election where Awami League achieved a landslide victory."AL Joint General Secretaries Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif, Dr Dipu Moni and Advocate Jahangir Kabir Nanak Organizing Secretaries Ahmed Hossain, Khaled Mahmud Chowdhury and Enamul Haq Shameem , Forest and Environment Secretary Delwar Hossain Cultural Affairs Secretary Wasim Kumar Ukil, BCL President Saifur Rahman Sohag and General Secretary SM Jakir Hossain, among others, spoke on the occasion.Source: BSS
