All set to hold district council polls

The Election Commission (EC) has taken all necessary preparations to hold the district council polls on Wednesday for the first time in the country."All the necessary arrangements have already been completed for holding the district council election," Election Commissioner M Shahnewaz told a news briefing at the Election Commission. He said election materials like ballot papers, training manuals, stamp pads, marking seals by now reached district level across the country.Shahnewaz said the EC earlier sought Jatiya Sangsad Speaker`s cooperation in keeping them out of their constituencies during the polling in line with election code of conduct so they could not influence the polls. The vote casting will begin from 9am and it will continue till 2pm in 61 out of 64 administrative districts as the elections excluded the three hill districts. The first district council election is being held as the five-year tenure of the government-appointed 61 district administrators expires this month.Source : BSS
