No scope for increasing wage of RMG workers: Minister

State Minister for Labour and Employment M Mujibul Haque Chunnu said that considering the present situation, there is scope to increase wage of readymade garment (RMG) workers.“There is no option to increase wage of RMG workers at this moment,” he told journalists after a meeting with crisis core committee on the garment sector at the Secretariat on Tuesday.The minister said that three years ago, the government increased the minimum salary for garment workers to Tk 5,300  and as per the rules, the workers get five percent increment over basic salary each year.“Two years later, the government will consider the demand for increasing the salary", he said.He, however, said that the government is yet to get any proposal for increasing salary from any of 530 Trade Unions and 43 Trade Federations.About Ashulia unrest, the minister said the intelligence unit is investigating the matter to find out who are instigating the workers for the unrest.
