Chittagong Cultural Complex on the cards: Noor

Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor on Sunday emphatically said that a cultural complex centring city`s century-old Muslim Institute Hall would soon be built at a cost of about TK one billion for flourishing arts and culture in the region."The full-fledged project including the design of the complex has already been finalised and is now awaiting approval from the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC)," the minister said.Noor said the much awaited complex, being built with basic objective to flourish rich and glorified cultural heritage of Chittagong, is also a part of government`s plan to decentralise the practice of culture across the country.The cultural complex which would include a big auditorium with capacity of 1200 audiences, a small auditorium for staging drama and theatrical performance with modern amenities, a seminar hall, a gallery and a coffee corner would be the centre of cultural excellence in Chittagong.The cultural minister said this in a tete-a-tete titled "Asaduzzaman Noor: Acting and Others" with the budding poets, writers, story tellers, actors, vocalists, arts and cultural activists and recital artistes at city`s Baatighar book shop at Chittagong Press Club building.Responding to a query of an artiste, the minister commented that the Chittagong centre of Bangladesh Television should be an independent terrestrial channel with 24 hours broadcasting facilities in order to project the varied and enriched cultural heritage of the region.Speaking about deep-rooted conspiracies of a vested quarter, the cultural minister said the sinister force as part of its premeditated plan is out to stall the development of the country by killing foreign nationals, priests, religious personalities, free thinkers and publishers."But the people of the country have rejected the evil forces as the government is hardly scared of them and vigilantly dealing with the issue.Later, the cultural minister replied to a dozens of questions on different biographical aspects stretching from culture to politics. Poet and columnist Abul Momen, recital artiste Rashed Hasan and proprietor of Baatighar Dipankar Das, among others, were present on the occasion.
