Director General of International Labour Organization (ILO) Guy Ryder said that the partnership between ILO and Bangladesh is growing strength to strength.The ILO DG made the remarks when he paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the Osmani Memorial Hall in the city on Sunday.After the meeting, PM’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed reporters. He said that the ILO director general mentioned that after the Rana Plaza building collapse in Savar, things are progressing well in Bangladesh.He also noted that it is very much important to maintain good relations among the owners and workers at the workplace for boosting productivity.Guy Ryder also lauded the amendment to the Labour Act for ensuring welfare of the workers.Listing various steps of her government towards ensuring welfare of the workers, Sheikh Hasina said that the government has been putting emphasis on skill development and it would make returns.The premier said that the government has also established Textile University, leather institute and fashion Technology University for the job seekers in the concerned fields."Training is also being imparted to the youths in different fields to build skilled manpower," she said.Sheikh Hasina said that Export Processing Zones are being at various places to cater production of export-oriented goods, while countrywide Special Economic Zones will meet local demand and boost export.State Minister for Labour and Employment Mujibul Haque Chunnu, PM`s Principal Secretary Dr Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury and Labour Secretary Michael Shipper were also present.Source: BSS
